{"id":103,"date":"2012-07-12T23:25:07","date_gmt":"2012-07-12T23:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.certainly-strange.com\/?p=103"},"modified":"2012-07-13T00:26:02","modified_gmt":"2012-07-13T00:26:02","slug":"arb-comics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.certainly-strange.com\/?p=103","title":{"rendered":"ARB Comics!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is an almost completely true account of me using <a title=\"ARB-Silva\" href=\"http:\/\/www.arb-silva.de\/\" target=\"_blank\">ARB<\/a> today.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 623px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"ARB Comics\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7115\/7558748474_cb9c174cbf_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"623\" height=\"429\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Using ARB can be dangerous.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Apart from discovering the button that kills people in ARB, today was the first day that I thought about the absurdity of using 3 different alignment programs to get my work done:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I use <a href=\"http:\/\/pbil.univ-lyon1.fr\/software\/seaview.html\">SeaView<\/a> to align my sequences and to view already-aligned sequences.<\/li>\n<li>I use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clustal.org\/\">Clustal<\/a> primarily for its &#8220;range information&#8221; function, to trim my sequences at my conserved trim targets.<\/li>\n<li>I use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arb-silva.de\/\">ARB<\/a> to import the alignments and make phylogenetic trees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Perhaps one day, there will be one aligner program that does everything I need it to.\u00a0 Do you hear me, you bioinformaticists out there??<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is an almost completely true account of me using ARB today.
