Due to stress in life generally, and also due to not having taken a vacation in quite some time, we went to West Marin to go kayaking and camping around Tomales Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We arrived a couple days early, however, to just relax at a hotel on the bay so we didn’t have to jump right into camping as soon as we arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From there we at oysters and went to go see the elephant seals at Drake’s Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then it was off to kayaking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tomales Bay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We saw loads of harbor seals, cormorants, egrets, and even a whale! Apparently the whale had been in the bay for a week now. There was conjecture that it was a juvenile gray whale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another goal had to wait for nightfall. The bioliminescent dinoflagellates!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We did see the bioluminescent dinoflagellates, and it was really cool! However I wasn’t set up to photograph long exposure, so you will have to take my word for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wakes of the kayaks, the splashes of the paddles, and any other motion caused the phenomenon to appear. We even saw the bioluminescence stirred up deeper down, by the various fish swimming by underneath us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It kind of felt like riding a boat through the spirit world, the way the wake glowed and emanated outwards from us while dipping the paddles into the water caused further glowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
