Our friend Dean invited us to spend the weekend with him in Santa Cruz, where he had rented a beach house for a vacation. Whenever Doc and I go to SC, we love to look for clothes in the thrift shops. I found a crazy ballroom gown, which I quickly dubbed the “Circe Lannister dress,” for reasons which should fast become obvious.<\/p>\n

I plan on removing the sleeves. And maybe embroidering some roaring lions on it.<\/p>\n

I thought that I would have to host a Game of Thrones party as an excuse to wear this thing, but then it just so happened that a part of a neighbor’s driveway crumbled away, forming a hole in the roof of a cave. A hole which spurts magnificent streams of seawater into the sky. A hole which was quickly dubbed, “The Blowhole.”<\/p>\n

This is a video of the Blowhole in all its glory:\u00a0http:\/\/vimeo.com\/87906893<\/a> (I didn’t personally film it, but many have done so). We got to watch the blowhole spurt its jets of water every high tide from the comfort of the beach house.<\/p>\n

And then somebody suggested I visit the Blowhole in my Circe Lannister dress. Which, of course, I did. Because that was an excellent idea.<\/p>\n

I didn’t get any reactions whatsoever. Nobody stared or even seemed to notice. So there is a woman wearing a ballroom gown visiting the Blowhole. So what? I suppose it is Santa Cruz, after all.<\/p>\n

I didn’t post any photos of myself in the gown with the Blowhole in the shot, because really it just looked like me in a gown next to a bunch of people milling about in front of a condemned house with cops telling everybody to move along.
