Hey that’s awesome! And as luck may have it, I can actually tell you what they used to make the belt and harness for the actual costumes in TNG/DS9. And once I tell you, you won’t be able to un-see it.
They used those dri dek panels / rubber bar mats, cut into strips! So that’s what I used too and I think it turned out great.
